The new public toilets at the Santa Lucía hermitage are completed
The new facility, which is already open to the public, will provide hygienic conditions in the area where the Ethnologic Interpretation Centre is also situated

The facility, undertaken by a local building company, is integrated into the landscape, adapted for disabled people and has been built from materials which blend with the surroundings and has authorisations from Heritage and the Sierra d’Irta Natural Park
The new public services, built at the Santa Lucía hermitage by the Alcala-Alcossebre Council, are already complete and are open for public use. With this new facility, hygienic and healthy conditions are guaranteed in the surroundings of the hermitage and the Ethnological Interpretation Centre.
The facility has two prefabricated toilets – one of them adapted for disabled people – with a total area of 5.5m and a water deposit adjacent and is situated in a sloping area, near the hermitage. Being on a sloping area, it makes no sort of visual impact on the hermitage and the archaeological site. A local construction company was awarded the task of carrying out the work through a tender, for the sum of 29,750 euros.
Materials appropriate to the environment were selected for the construction, like wood and stone, to build a masonry wall very similar to that already existing around the viewing platform. The work received mandatory authorisations from the Heritage and Culture General Management and from the Sierra d’Irta Natural Park and the corresponding works were carried out to preserve any types of existing archaeological vestiges in the space which the new public toilets will occupy.
“By carrying out this action, we are providing the place with public services, which doubtlessly, means an important improvement as it continually has more and more visitors”, Mayor Francisco Juan explained.
