Alcala-Alcossebre Council demands action to reduce the overpopulation of wild boar and rabbits

At its last ordinary meeting, the Alcala-Alcossebre council approved a motion, put forward by the Partido Popular group, in which they demanded and requested solutions from the Generalitat Valenciana and the Provincial Diputación for the control of the overpopulation of hunting species, such as the wild boar and rabbits, which are causing damage to agricultural products and could cause traffic accidents.  Due to the overpopulation, particularly of the wild boar, these animals are getting closer and closer to inhabited areas in search of food, which could clearly mean danger.

The motion requests the Generalitat Valenciana to promote agreements with the hunting associations so that they can carry out actions to control these species completely legally and in a controlled way; promoting hunting and its environmental function and securing help for the hunting bodies in matters such as forest management and fire prevention.  They also requested financial measures to prevent the abandonment of farms and support for the hunting activity as an instrument to create employment and put a brake on the depopulation of rural environments.

The motion also urged the Diputación Provincial to encourage investigation, training and environmental education using agreements with the hunting sector.
