Compromis asks for the list of expenses of the festivities of Alcalà-Alcossebre
In the Ordinary Plenary Session last November, the budget for the year 2021 was approved in which a budget line of 226,500€ was contemplated for the Patron Saint Festivities. However, according to the spokesperson of the Compromís group, María Sorlí, there are other budget lines that may be affected by the festivities and that are not included in the budget. Therefore, she demands full transparency from the City Council.
These are lines such as the one dedicated to cultural activities, whose budget was set at € 42,000, the one dedicated to guided tours to the Castle of Xivert and Santa Lucia with a budget of € 8,000, the one dedicated to the Custom Maestrat Concentration budgeted at € 7,000 or the one dedicated to printing works with a budget of € 15,000, among others. "A good part of the citizenship and also this municipal group wonder what the total amount of the expenses generated by each of the scheduled events is," says Sorlí. The spokeswoman also insists on knowing if the City Council makes a comparative assessment regarding the influx of public to the events and the costs they cause, because for Compromis transparency is a fundamental pillar of good democratic functioning. Therefore, it is important that all citizens know how much and for what our money is invested.
For all of the above, for the particular interests at stake and for the general public interest, the representative of the group Compromís per Alcalà i Alcossebre requests through a motion presented to the City Council that the City Council of Alcalà de Xivert commits to prepare a detailed report of the total expenses generated by each of the events scheduled in the Patron Saint Festivities 2021, as well as all additional expenses such as security, medical services, advertising, printing, transportation, aid to Festeras, etc. It also requests that the City Council of Alcalà de Xivert make this report public through its website and the next BIM (the municipal bulletin), as well as in the corporate social networks.
"We hope that the City Council will pronounce favourably to the motion, as it would be an important exercise in transparency," adds Sorlí.
