The Council has prepared a new section of the cycle lane in the calle Las Fuentes up to the Alcossebre marina roundabout

The work is part of the progressive increase in the areas destined for cycling in the municipality and how they fit in with pedestrians and other vehicles, by applying the Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan.

Alcala-Alcossebre Council is continuing to increase the sections of urban roads dedicated to the use of sustainable vehicles, like bicycles.  In line with this, they are going ahead with new work which consists of preparing a new 1,275 metres long cycle track situated between calle Portell, along the whole length of the paseo in Las Fuentes and the camino L’Atall, up to the roundabout at the Alcossebre marina.  In the area of the Paseo Maritimo in front of the marina, the north area of the camino L’Atall and from the end of the paseo Las Fuentes up to the calle Portell it will be prepared as a cycling road, with speed reduced to 30 kms/hr and encouraging use by both cyclists and vehicles.  In the paseo Las Fuentes and the marina paseo Marítimo, there will be a cycle track, marked with white lines and integrated with the traffic on the pedestrian path.  One of the principal objectives of this work is to improve bicycle circulation through the north part of the town of Alcossebre, guaranteeing road safety in the area for vehicles, cyclists and pedestrians.

The work has already been tendered for and awarded and will start shortly.  It has a budget of 18,000 euros and will include the preparation of the new cycle track and road, with signs and road markings.  Symbols will be painted on the delineated area every 20 metres, in both directions, and at the intersections and at the start of the cycle track and road cycling, speed limit signs will be installed.  There will also be additional road safety elements such as separators and reflectors.

Mayor Francisco Juan reminded that “we are constantly applying the Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan in our management and therefore the areas dedicated to riding bicycles will continue to increase.  We believe that their use is very attractive to people who live in our municipality and also for those who visit us and we need to have the infrastructures to guarantee their use and which ensure that they fit in with other vehicles or with pedestrians at the same time”.
