Alcala de Xivert-Alcossebre awarded Five Blue Flags and a Path Blue Flag for the quality of its shoreline

The beach cleaning brigade has already started its work

This year the Alcala de Xivert-Alcossebre beaches have obtained five blue flags, for the Las Fuentes, Cargador, La Romana , El Moro and Manyetes beaches.
For the second year running, the Alcossebre coastal pathway has also been awarded a Blue Path flag.  As the Environmental Education Foundation, the body which makes these awards, explained: “The Blue Path flags were conceived as a useful resource to encourage the sustainable management of the shore and its environs, with cooperation and feedback between the tourist and environment sectors, aiming to consolidate the importance of the Blue Path quality with an award which is recognised and valued in the same way as the Blue Flag for beaches”.
The Alcala de Xivert-Alcossebre mayor, Francisco Juan Mars, pointed out that obtaining these six awards means that “our beaches are greatly appreciated, together with the work the Council is carrying out to make sure that we have excellent tourist services to offer our visitors”.  The mayor considered that “these Blue Flags are the rewards for the efforts which so many people are making in all the municipal departments to maintain the quality of our natural resources”.
He added “in the same way, obtaining recognition such as the Blue Path flag for our coastal path puts us once again in the tourism and environmental vanguard, as it is a pioneering distinction which our town has pride in being the first in the province to obtain”.
The beach cleaning campaign starts
The army of people entrusted with maintaining the main Alcossebre beaches in a perfect condition has already started working every day and will continue until 15th September.
This means that the thousands of visitors to the town during the summer months will be able to enjoy perfectly maintained beaches.  Both the cleanliness of the sand, which receives constant careful attention, and the many facilities which the award-winning Alcossebre beaches offer, are in the forefront of a new summer campaign offering a guarantee of maximum quality.
Early in the morning, the brigade, and the machine involved in cleaning the sand which operates during the night, provides a service which in recent years has been very efficient.  Another improvement for Alcossebre’s beaches is that the number of selective waste collection bins will be increased.
Mayor Francisco Juan and the head of Services and Environment, Rafa Trujillo, were on the Cargador beach to supervise the workers’ first day.  “We are obliged, as a tourist centre, to offer our residents and visitors quality beaches and services.  The blue flags and awards we receive each year are the best proof that good work is being carried out”, the mayor stated.
