Celebrations in Alcossebre to mark the Queen of England’s Jubilee

The British community resident in Alcossebre organised a day of celebrations to commemorate Queen Elizabeth’s 60 years on the throne
If there was a procession of a thousand boats on the waters of the Thames to open the events commemorating the Diamond Jubilee of Queen Elizabeth, there were also great celebrations in Alcossebre for this anniversary.  Around 200 members of the large British community resident on the coast took an active part in a fun day which had everything!
Music, dancing, good food.... from early evening, the Sant Benet Pensioners’ Hall in Alcossebre became British soil with the red, white and blue colours of the Union flag everywhere.
The day ended with a supper when the British celebrated the Diamond Jubilee of their Monarch to the full.
Mayor Francisco Juan, accompanied by various members of the Council such as Jose Colom, María Agut and Desa Pitarch, willingly accepted the invitation of the British community to enjoy the celebrations.  “The sense of patriotism of the British resident in Alcossebre is enormous and this celebration shows it, but their capacity to integrate in the society of our town is no less.  They take part in innumerable events and are always ready to lend a hand.”, he explained.
While reporting on the event, it must be mentioned that the Alcossebre British residents also received a letter from Buckingham Palace, the Queen of England’s home, congratulating them on taking part in her celebrations.
