Three Musical Charity Events in Alcossebre

The first to start were The Alcossebre Singers who, on Saturday, May 26th, presented part of their last main concert at the Alcossebre Pensioners.
The somewhat reduced choir because of some of the members being abroad, once more delighted us with most of its lively songs, such as the Last Train to San Fernando, Que Viva España or the delightful Floral Dance. It was just a pity that the concert had to compete with Alcala´s San Isidro Fair and its procession and mass, so that most of the audience were British. Anyway, a nice little fund was raised, which has been added to the funds raised by the main concerts.
The second concert took place on Sunday, May 27th, next to Cargador beach, presented by the Scots Music Group Ceilidh Dance Band .
The group, mostly consisting of fiddlers ,who also formed a little choir, presented Scottish melodies, songs and dances. Of course, there was a bagpiper, too, who preceded the first and second part. There were also three Asturian pipers from the Asturian Association of Castellon, who presented some Asturian melodies.
The charming band leader, a woman, and some members of the group, took, now and then, men and women out of the audience, trying to introduce them to Scottish dances, nice and quick dances which, slowly, slowly, filled the asphalted dancing area.
At the end a big circle was formed with everybody singing the famous Scottish Auld Lang Syne.
A nice and somewhat different musical evening. The band, who had stayed in Alcossebre before and who had been the hosts of the flamenco dancing group Aires de Alcossebre in Edinburgh, raised nice funds, especially in Castellon where they gave a concert, too, beside Peñíscola and Alcossebre. ASPROPACE –  Cerebral Paralysis Association – will be given more than 2000,00 euros raised between Peñíscola and Castellón, while the 300,00 euros raised in Alcossebre will go to the Spanish Cancer Association.
The third concert was given at the Alcossebre Pensioners, on Sunday, June 3rd, by the Alcala Santa Cecilia Band, in order to raise funds for Lorca, the town near Murcia which had suffered a bad earthquake last year.
We were presented, with good accoustics, a nice programme of pasodobles. The band leader´s invitation to dance wasn´t quickly accepted – I didn´t realize Spanish were so timid -; it was just towards the end when the dance floor was filling a bit, till suddenly, at the end, there was a „full to bursting.“
Unfortunately, lots of pensioners seemed to have had no idea that the concert was on and had started at 18.15, as they just arrived between 19.00 and 19.30 h, the normal Sunday dancing start.
Anyway, the funds raised between the donations – also from the Pensioners Sant Benet and the Charity Shop - and the selling of sweet and salty pastry, made by the Alcala Housewives and some ot the young band members´mothers, were quite good,  553,95 euros.
The Santa Cecilia band will give another concert to raise funds for Lorca, on June 29th, at 19,00 h, at the Alcala Pensioners. Hopefully the premises will be packed!
