A security course aimed at older people, organised by the Alcala de Xivert-Alcossebre Council Police Department, was held during the evening of 15th June.
As Councillor Ricardo Aguilar explained, “on many occasions you can feel helpless in situations such as robberies or possibly scams and we thought it would be a good idea to offer you all our assistance”.
Alcossebre Pensioners’ Hall was the scene for the talk on security presented by the Head of the Local Police, Rubén Meliá. “We want to give you some advice, for example, for when you are in the street and your bag is snatched, although other advice is frequently requested about scams in the home”, the police officer explained. He added that faced with a crime “you should act positively and with a firm attitude you can prevent a robbery or scam for older people, who in the majority of cases are helpless”.
This talk was much appreciated by the older people living in the coastal town, who showed their interest in this initiative on how to prevent themselves from becoming victims of criminals.
Local mayor, Francisco Juan Mars, pointed out that “the security of our residents and particularly of older people has always concerned us here, so that this talk will be given in Alcala as well”. Older people in Alcala de Xivert will be given the opportunity of listening to this talk in July.
