The inaugural journey of the Tapas Train in Alcossebre was a great success
The Tapas Train picked up its first passengers at 11.30am on Saturday 14th July to take them on their journey to the various hostelries in Alcossebre to sample the best local.
This scheme is the initiative of the “De la Mar a la Taula” Gastronomy Association, with the support of the Council and the Tourism Department. After the inaugural journey, the Tapas Train will set off twice a week, with the first on Wednesday 17th July. It will stop at the Can Roig restaurant, Montemar, Juan and Ca Batiste. The second route will take place on Saturdays and will stop at Tropicana, La Sal, Nautico and Ca Batiste. Both train routes will return passengers to the Vista Alegre ticket office.
The inaugural journey was special, and the sixty or so passengers who had been invited to taste all types of tapas, stopped at all the restaurants along the beautiful coastal route. Members of the Council and representatives of different local groups were present on this first trip. Ricardo Aguilar, the Tourist councillor, pointed out the importance of initiatives which promote the town. “The Council will always support any initiative which will enhance the image of Alcala and Alcossebre and, particularly, its tourism development”.
David Doppioni, chairman of the Association, showed how enthusiastic this gastronomy association is for the success of this initiative. “The Tapas Train has been greatly welcomed and we already have a large number of reservations for next Wednesday. However, we will always have some seats for those who decide to come along at the last minute”, he explained.
To book for the trip, go along to the train ticket office in Vista Alegre on Wednesday or Saturday up to the 8th September, from 11am. Tickets cost 13 Euros, and the train sets off at 11.30 in the morning, stopping at each restaurant for approximately 20 minutes before moving on to the next. All information can be obtained from the Tourist Office, together with information about all the other events taking place in Alcala de Xivert-Alcossebre during the summer season.
