International Summer artistic residency in contemporary dance with dancer and choreographer Toni Aparisi in Suera (Castelló)

- This project is designed to promote, expand, and innovate the repertoire of contemporary dance for dancers from all over the world, of all nationalities and ages.
- Once the selection is made, there will be a week of residence in Suera (Castelló), under the technical coordination of the choreographer and dancer Toni Aparisi and the cultural technician of the Caixa Castelló Foundation, Alfredo Llopico, in coordination with the staff of the City Council of Suera.
- The main objective of the project is to develop and create new repertoire for contemporary dance.
- The artistic residency seeks, through culture, to vertebrate artistically the territory of Castellón thanks to the collaboration of the Caixa Castelló Foundation with the City Council of Suera, the Diputación of Castellón and the Universitat Jaume I of Castelló.
Travel expenses, according to conditions, accommodation in Suera and meals will be covered by the organization. Each participant must provide a copy of their health insurance. The organization is responsible for the civil liability insurance of the participants.
- Deadline for submission of participation requests. Until May, including that day.
- Resolution: June 10.
- Incomplete or submitted after the deadline participation requests will not be considered.
Requests must contain:
- Brief curriculum vitae
- Photograph of the participant
- Contact information (address, e-mail, phone number, ID number)
- A recording of the piece or link to a choreographic work performed and choreographed by the candidate, either a solo or a group piece. The piece must be a representative work.
- All materials must be sent to cultura@fundacioncajacastellon.es before May 31st.
Six participants will be selected, plus six additional participants to fill possible vacancies. Selected participants will be invited to attend from July 7 to 14 in Suera (Castellón). Once the residency has been accepted, it will be necessary to
- Inform of possible food intolerances or if the diet must consider any particularity.
- Proposal with the title of the piece to be developed and synopsis if any. There are no time or technical restrictions.
- It must include a brief description of the working methodology of the creative process, stating whether you generate your own material, use that of other performers or a combination of both.
- The minimum duration of the piece created in Suera must be between five and ten minutes.
Activities and dance sessions will be carried out with Toni Aparisi. The selected people will have to develop repertoire for the training. In addition, they may consider adding any gestural, theatrical, or performative element in their music. Participants will have full availability of municipal spaces to perform their music in Suera. In case of interest in a technique not specified, the organization can be contacted for further information.
The creative process of each participant will be carried out with the rest of the selected people. All the selected people will participate and will be available to the proposal of the other creators. In each person's own piece, it is possible to contemplate not being an interpreter of the piece. Therefore, each piece will consist of six performers with the option to be seven if the person who directs it decides to participate. The work sessions for each person will be between 5 and 6 hours.
For a correct development of the creative process, there will be an online session with Toni Aparisi and Alfredo Llopico before the residency week. The online meeting will take place on a date to be determined, according to the availability of the selected candidates.
A live recording of the final performance (July 13) will be made in audio and video format and may be published and shared through social networks.
Fundación Caja Castellón reserves the right to change, modify, add, or delete parts of the conditions according to the needs raised to improve the operation and development of the proposed activity.
CONDITIONS OF THE RESIDENCE
- The organization assumes the accommodation of the six selected participants at the HRV Hotel in Suera, full board in a shared double room. (www.hotelverdia.com).
- The organization assumes a civil liability insurance during the activity.
- The organization will provide a travel allowance of 200 euros for participants coming from the national territory. For foreign participants, the collaboration will be indicated according to the place of origin.
- The organization will provide means of travel from Castellón/Vila-real/Onda, for the trip to Suera and the return at the end.
- The Caja Castellón Foundation assumes the possibility of a paid performance of the pieces produced during the residency at its headquarters in the Sala Sant Miquel in Castellón, according to institutional fees, from September 2024, depending on the availability of the selected performers.
- To participate in this call implies compliance with the Organic Law on Data Protection and acceptance that images of the process may be used for exclusively for communication purposes.
Fundación Caja Castellón is a private non-profit institution that started its activity in the second half of 1991. The mission of Fundación Caja Castellón is to carry out and promote all kinds of activities of general and particular interest, research, education, culture, environment, health, social assistance, as well as any others that respond to the needs felt by society.
These goals are achieved through the realization of various activities, with its own management in its own centers or collaborating in the support of the activities carried out in centers that are not owned by it. All this with the aim of preserving the identity of Welfare Projects at the service of the society of Castellón.
The municipality of Suera is in the Plana Baja region of Castellón, in the northern foothills of the Sierra de Espadán Natural Park, and within the Espadán-Mijares Community of Municipalities. At 30 km. from Castellón and 80 km. from Valencia. The municipality is drained by the Castro ravine, a tributary of the river Soneja in the municipality of Tales. The urban center is at an altitude of 316 m. above sea level. It borders to the north with the municipality of Fanzara, to the east with Onda and Tales, to the south with Alcudia and Veo and to the west with Villamalur and Ayódar. It currently has a population of 525 inhabitants, a figure that doubles in summer.

Toni Aparisi studied drama at the Escuela Superior de Arte Dramático y Danza de Valencia (E.S.A.D) and dance at the Valencian schools of Amparo Bayarri, Amparo Benimeli and the Centro Europeo de Danza, completing his training by working with choreographers such as Gerard Collins, Olga Poliakof, Francesc Bravo, Gracel Meneu, Vicente Sáez, Carolyn Carson, Santiago Sempere or Rosángeles Valls.
Among his numerous awards, he has received the Max Award to the best dancer 2007, the Abril Award to the best dancer 2006 and 2007, seven nominations to the MAX awards of the performing arts and five to the "Premis de Les Arts Escèniques Valencianes de la Generalitat Valenciana, First Prize in the IV Certamen Coreográfico de Madrid with the piece "Trapping que es gerundio", as well as a scholarship to the best dancer for the "Merce Cunningham School".
