A great success again this year for Alcala’s Purísima Market
With a lot of stall-holders taking part and many visitors, the traditional Purísima market was held on Thursday, 8th December. Over the years, this has become a really important date.
As well as businesses in the town, various local associations and groups all came together in an attempt to boost interest in this singular market. The Alcala Football Club, the lace-makers, the Amas de Casa, Custom Maestrat, the traditional dance group, and pupils from the Serra d’Irta School - all had stalls alongside those of the Alcala businesses, making the “Purísima Market” even bigger this year.
After attending the religious service of the day, Francisco Juan went to the market together with the rest of the government and the ‘festeras’, and was very positive about the event. “We are all aware of the difficulties of the current economic situation, and we sincerely thank all the businesses which still come out into the street to sell their products”.
He then went on to remark on the work carried out by the social groups. “It is gratifying to see how when we ask them, they work with us, and they always show an enviable disposition”. And the local associations made this plainly visible on Thursday in the Market Place.
Rafa Trujillo, in charge of Markets, also thanked the businesses and associations for their presence on the stalls: “Thanks to them, this date has been made possible again this year. We must continue to look for events which will encourage small businesses”, he explained.
The day, which attracted hundreds of people into the Market Place and included performances by the local ‘dolçainers’, ended with the draws for the various raffles organised by the Council and several associations.
