The Health Department will study increasing the opening hours for the auxiliary medical centre in Alcossebre
At the end of November, the Autonomous Health Secretary, Nela García, and the Director General of the health and organisation sub-directorate, visited Alcala, where they had a meeting with the Mayor, Francisco Juan Mars and the Health Councillor, Maria Agut, to discuss the various medical installations in the municipality, and, in particular, the auxiliary medical centre in Las Fuentes in Alcossebre.
The autonomous secretary told the mayor that the Department promises that “it will always improve the quality of medical services for people” and she announced that “we are studying the possibility of increasing the opening hours for the auxiliary surgery in Alcossebre”. The Alcala mayor said that until 2011, this centre was only open in summer, but “following action by the PP government we were able to have it open at Easter and two weeks before summer”. He then emphasised that this “is not enough and we will keep on fighting to have it open more each year”.
With regard to the controversy which had arisen over whether or not the request had already been passed to the Generalitat, the autonomous secretary apologissed to the mayor and to the health councillor, as it appeared that “there had been a misunderstanding in handling this request, as yes, it had been made by the Council”.
On the other hand, in 2012 the Alcossebre health centre will be refurbished and enlarged, providing new rooms, such as a gymnasium for preparation for birth and other spaces which “will improve the health services in the town” according to Nela Garcia.
Regarding the new health centre, to be built in Alcala by the Department, the basic project is subject to a series of improvements and the plan is for it to be completed before the end of the legislature.
