Esther Pallardó, the Castellón Diputación Vice-President and the head of the Social Services Department, visited the Alcala de Xivert Pensioners’ facilities on 29th December, accompanied by the local Mayor, Francisco Juan Mars.
Pallardó had wanted to see for herself what the Pensioners’ Association and the building it manages needed, confirming the great amount of work which the group carries out in serving older people.  The Social Services Deputy repeated the Diputación’s support and congratulated the Association on the services they provide.  She also promised the Alcala Pensioners Committee to find solutions to the current problems of financing the centre and the home, a situation for which a solution is being sought.

The Council has taken measures to solve the problem at the Alcala de Xivert Pensioners in view of the delays to the Consellería grants.  During the visit of Esther Pallardó, vice president and Deputy for Social Services of the Diputación, the mayor, Francisco Juan Mars, said that the association had already received a grant of 4,500 euros and in the first two weeks of January will receive another 15,500 euros.
The mayor stated that “the Council has always been at the side of this association, carrying out a lot of organising, journeys and meetings with the appropriate people in the Social Services and Hacienda Departments at the Diputación, doing everything we can to find a solution so that we can keep the care home open”.  Francisco Juan pointed out that “what is important for us is to ensure that the centre provides a service which is as important as the care home is, as well as the other services they provide, so that the 7 or 8 workers can keep their jobs and the residents can continue living with us”.
He also explained that “the Council I lead is aware of all our residents’ problems and in particular the group of pensioners.  Therefore, because of the problems we have, we have applied emergency solutions”.
The council has also given assistance to the association organising matters with banks “so that they can have a credit account to enable them to continue operating as normal”.
Regarding the Care Home at the Pensioners’ building, he stated that he has “total confidence in being able to solve the problem thanks to the close relationship between the governing group and the Management Committee, and particularly with the president.
Also, the Department already has a favourable report for a new grant in 2012 “and they are a priority for the 2011 grant, so that the care home will be able to continue operating”, the mayor stated.
Francisco Juan Mars concluded his statement with “we are working to try to solve problems and we are proving this with facts and results”, at the same time he regretted “that residents are being confused and confused with stories which bear no relation to the truth, giving the impression that in future, the care home residents and its workers will be of very little importance”.
