Lots of new things for Alcala de Xivert’s Carnival

The Fiestas and Culture councillors are updating the details for the organisation, collecting views from the various groups

In both the Fiesta and the Culture departments, Alcala de Xivert is already hard at work organising the Carnival fiestas, to be held from the 17th to 19th February,.  This was shown at an informal meeting held by the Council with the ‘collas’ to find out ‘first hand’ their needs regarding the processions.  They also exchanged ideas on how to improve the activities included in the programme planned by the Fiestas Department.
During the meeting, they discussed the times for the processions.  Fiestas councillor, Pascual Herrera, explained that “everyone agreed to start the processions at 22:00h, but we are making the route a little different”.  The change will involve removing the calle Tremedal, and including the calle Sant Vicent, with all the processions ending in the fiestas marquee, where the dancing will be held.
For the first time, this year the procession will include the participation of a disc-jockey, who will enliven the parades from a strategic point on the route, from which he will be able to receive, present and greet each and every one of the 24 collas which it is expected will take part in the processions.  This new idea will enable all the floats to have the same music, which will mean that the collas taking part will not have the added cost of hiring a professional sound system for the float.  The organisers will let the participants know how to connect to the dial from which the carnival procession music will be retransmitted and synchronised from each float.
Another new thing worth mentioning in the Alcala de Xivert carnival programme is the organisation of a meal of “pa y porta” on the great day of the processions, the Saturday, which won the approval of those taking part.  “The collas are in agreement with this initiative, which will also add more atmosphere to the night”, the Fiestas councillor, Pascual Herrera, explained.
The following weekend it will be Alcossebre’s turn for carnival, on the 24th and 25th February.  The route on this occasion will be the same as in previous years, although it will start in front of the restaurant Dora, in the cami L’Atall.
