facilities on which 100,000 euros are being spent on improvements. The total project includes places in
residential inns and camp sites in Castellón, Benicarló, Benicassim and
Alcossebre. Two new sites for voluntary
work of a social nature will be developed in July.
The IVAJ.GVA JOVE student residential hostels in Benicassim,
Castellón and Benicarló and the Alcossebre Jaume I camp site are being prepared
to the youth activities and sports in Castellon province.
The Youth Director and director of the IVAJ.GVA JOVE, Marcos
Sanchis, accompanied by Ricardo Aguilar, the Alcossebre deputy mayor, and youth
councillor, Joan Batiste Herrera, toured the facilities at the Jaume I
Alcossebre camp site for youngsters, where groups and associations take part in
the holiday activities for young people in the Valencian Community and which
will also be the headquarters of the youth voluntary work course “Pequeñas Ilusiones”, in conjunction with
the Red Cross.
Marcos Sanchis pointed out the improvements carried out at the
Alcossebre Jaume I camp site, in the municipality of Alcala de Xivert, in the
El Baix Maestrat region, which has received a total of 102,747 euros for
maintenance e and conservation work, particularly painting and varnishing,
plumbing, solar panels, electrical installations, the camp area and specially
the 21 wooden cabins in blocks of 3.
He said that “we want our facilities for young people to have
international appeal and therefore we must invest in them so that young people
can enjoy both our coastal and inland landscapes as comfortably as possible in
hostels and camp sites.
Alcossebre’s Jaume I camp site covers an area of nearly 74,000
sq.m., and is situated by the sea, with a large pine wooded area and terraces
for the tents as well as accommodation in wooden cabins. The various services are situated amongst the
pine trees. This facility is one
included in the whole programme on offer in July and August, in cabins and
tents, with a total of 2,010 places.
Marcos Sanchis, Youth director, stated that there are two new social
areas this year in Alcossebre and Benicarló.
This increases the number this summer from 3 to 5, providing the support
for voluntary social work in the Community’s camp sites.
From the 16th to 30th July, in collaboration
with the Red Cross, the Alcossebre Jaume I camp site will hold the IVAJ.GVA
JOVE youth voluntary work course “Pequeñas Ilusiones”. The specialist training will be provided by a
group of monitors who are specifically specialists in some suitable sport. A group of 20 volunteers will take part with
a group of 12 disabled children aged between 8 and 16 years old.
The IVAJ.GVA JOVE provides a variety of accommodation, activities
and courses throughout Castellón province during the summer. There are also weekend activities during the
year at some of the facilities.
