Cooperation from the Dirección General de Cultura y Patrimonio and the Provincial Fire Service Consortium has already been requested to carry out the technical investigation
The Alcala-Alcossebre Council has taken the first steps to evaluate the state of the dome of the Alcala de Xivert San Juan Bautista church, as, just by looking at it, cracks can already be seen in the stone at the top and there are plants growing which could damage the structure and cause greater damage. This has been made clear by the publication on a social network of photos taken with a powerful telescopic lens by a resident, as just by looking it is difficult to establish the damage.
The Council has asked the Provincial Fire Service Consortium for their cooperation by bringing the machinery needed to access the dome so that then the corresponding technical investigation can be carried out. Also, an official communication has been sent to the Dirección General de Cultura y Patrimonio, stressing that the San Juan Bautista church has been declared a Building of Cultural Interest and therefore its conservation is key to preserving its heritage and historical value.
The mayor Francisco Juan pointed out that “it is essential to maintain the value of and take care of our heritage and we need all the authorities involved. An example was the recuperation of the bell tower in 2008, when the Council, the Diputación Provincial and the Generalitat Valenciana all took part and it cost a total of 650,000 euros. We are sure that this time there will again be the same awareness and interest shown in the local heritage”.
