There will be eleven floats in the big procession in Alcala on Saturday, 25th February
Alcala-Alcossebre Council has again chartered buses for the Carnival celebrations to travel between the two centres. The buses will operate on the processions days, 25th February in Alcala de Xivert and 4th March in Alcossebre. This will save many private cars travelling and will make it easier for residents to join in both towns’ events. On Saturday, 25th February, the bus will set off at 20:00 hours from the Avenida Valencia in Alcossebre to go to Alcala, and will leave Alcala at 01:00 hours from the calle General Cucala to return to Alcossebre. On Saturday 4th March, the bus will leave the plaza Juan Vilanova in Alcala at 20:00 hours, again leaving Alcossebre for the return to Alcala at 01:00 hours with a second bus leaving at 05:00 hours for Alcala.
“This initiative, which we started during previous carnivals, means that residents from both towns can enjoy the fiesta, without having to worry about driving their car back and preventing the danger which this journey might mean”, Mayor Francisco Juan pointed out and he took the opportunity of “inviting all residents and visitors to enjoy our Carnival”.
The celebrations in Alcala de Xivert will start on Friday, 24th February, with processions organised by the users of the Respite Unit, pupils from the CEIP Lo Campanar school, the Menuts nursery and the play centre in Alcala. From 21:30 hours those taking part will line up and the procession will start at 22:00 hours. On Saturday, the children’s procession will start at 16:00 hours and then the grand procession will start at 22:00 hours, with the sambodromo installed in the plaza Juan Vilanova, eleven floats and the participating groups. Afterwards, the Espai d’Oci will be the scene for dancing to the Orchestra Agora and a disco. The carnival weekend will end on Sunday 26th February with the interment of Don Carnal, at 18:00 hours.
